La Chatte Gitane (or The Gypsy Cat) was the name we chose for our cottage in France at the time. We chose it while on the road, moving house the first time round, from Ireland to France with 2 dogs and 7 cats in the car.
This blog began its insignificant life as a recipe book for friends and family who would ask me repeatedly for a recipe of this, that and the other.
Since then it has taken many different directions, like we did and like gypsies tend to do. Sometimes making a U-turn and revisiting familiar roads and taking a break when necessary.
You'll find recipes here, but also musings about the places we've called home, the gardens that we've established, not always successfully, the homes we've improved and the environments we've lived in. Currently, after yet another stint in Ireland, we're back in France @ Le Mas d'Ayen

The Party People.

Such serious faces ! You've got to wonder about the standard of the food.

Serious faces ? Maybe I spoke too soon.

The perfect hostess ! Showered, hair pulled back, no lipstick, no mascara, pinny wearing and exhausted. Very photogenic !
But always up for a giggle and a good old belly laugh !

We have some wine making enthusiasts among our friends. I don't drink alcohol (anymore), but I take great pleasure from  Richard's  wine labels.

It's all I can do to show my appreciation for their unconditional friendship, stuff them with homemade fayre.

  1. Wish I had a Dining Room large enough to seat a big family gathering! With the numbers of grandchildren growing, it's a struggle to fit everyone in. This time of year is very much one for family gatherings though. Good times!

    1. One should have a dining room where folded walls clap out and the roof extends.
We don't have a large dining area, but pushing sofas and other furniture aside helps.
Unfortunately our family from Belgium couldn't be here for Christmas, so we make our friends our family. :)

  2. What a lovely lot of family and friends you have around your table, our table is set just for three but it can be extended which is good. I get the giggles as well, especially if wine is involved x

    1. You have to be kind hearted and make me laugh (which is really easy) ;)

  4. I like your idea of an extendable dining room - that would be cool! I remember meals like that at my granny's house.
