La Chatte Gitane (or The Gypsy Cat) was the name we chose for our cottage in France at the time. We chose it while on the road, moving house the first time round, from Ireland to France with 2 dogs and 7 cats in the car.
This blog began its insignificant life as a recipe book for friends and family who would ask me repeatedly for a recipe of this, that and the other.
Since then it has taken many different directions, like we did and like gypsies tend to do. Sometimes making a U-turn and revisiting familiar roads and taking a break when necessary.
You'll find recipes here, but also musings about the places we've called home, the gardens that we've established, not always successfully, the homes we've improved and the environments we've lived in. Currently, after yet another stint in Ireland, we're back in France @ Le Mas d'Ayen

Sunday Tripping.

No, not like that !
We went to Clonakilty yesterday. We had a purpose to go there as we wanted to visit this pig farm .
They have a few  rare and old breed pigs and some piglets ( oh so cute). I took my camera and did I take pics ? Did I heck.  But we're not ready to take piggies home just yet. We only wanted to take a look and see the possibilities.
Of course we first phoned them to see if it would be okay for us to visit. We had to phone Maire, the farmer, when we arrived in Clonakilty and she would come to collect us.  Seemed easier than to explain the directions to the farm.
We stayed and talked with Maire for about 15 minutes - it was bitterly cold and then we headed back in the direction of Sneem while making plans for the next arrivals somewhere in March.
The pig pen in the shed needs a little rearranging and their outside plot needs draining. It's wet everywhere, here in Ireland at least, but it is not good if the next piglets disappear in the bog. Thus we plan to get the diggers in again in the next couple of months.

The two hour drive back home delivered some great scenery and I had my camera at the ready.

I couldn't bring myself to get out of the car as I had to tinkle really bad and staying seated meant I could save it all up till we were home ;) I also felt really crummy with a sore throat, so the sooner we got home the better.

I'll leave you with a last photo of yesterday morning's view from the house.

My guess is that it was a covering of hail and not snow. But lovely nonetheless.

  1. I very much like pigs for they are very sociable animals, intelligent and with a sense of cleanliness, in that they keep their toilet area separate from the eating area.
I failed to see any boars in the farm photo's ?

  4. Lovely photos, that farm shows exactly how pigs should be kept. Only just over a year now until we are back in business with the piggies, we'll have to start shopping around soon :-)

The hills opposite us are covered in a light frosting of snow now and the mountains behind an even deeper covering. Much better snow and frost than all this bl**dy rain.
