La Chatte Gitane (or The Gypsy Cat) was the name we chose for our cottage in France at the time. We chose it while on the road, moving house the first time round, from Ireland to France with 2 dogs and 7 cats in the car.
This blog began its insignificant life as a recipe book for friends and family who would ask me repeatedly for a recipe of this, that and the other.
Since then it has taken many different directions, like we did and like gypsies tend to do. Sometimes making a U-turn and revisiting familiar roads and taking a break when necessary.
You'll find recipes here, but also musings about the places we've called home, the gardens that we've established, not always successfully, the homes we've improved and the environments we've lived in. Currently, after yet another stint in Ireland, we're back in France @ Le Mas d'Ayen

We're About to Lose Them.

Mikaela and Keegan will be leaving us on Friday.

They'll be turning their backs on us, and going off on new adventures.

We make the most of it. Last Sunday we took them sightseeing to Staigue Fort nearby.
It is a (approx) 2000 year old ring fort of Celtic origin.
That is dry-stone walling for ye !

Yesterday we had the long promised sushi making session.

One last push today to get the chicken coop and run spic and span.
They will be missed. For the fine individuals they are and for all the hard work they did for us.

  1. Sounds as if they worked hard for you, and that you all got on very well together. Presumably someone else will replace them soon?

    1. They worked extremely hard. We've been so lucky with our volunteers over the years and they all (except four) bring so much joy to our lives.
There is indeed a replacement waiting in the wings but we have a 9 day break. After that it's family time. they will be visiting from Belgium during the summer hols.

  2. They have worked so hard. They must be a breath of fresh air to have around with their youthful energy. X

  3. They've worked hard and made such a difference to your place, and they seem like a lovely couple to boot. You'll be sad to see them go no doubt, but they've left lots of things to remember them by.

  4. I can tell that you will be sorry see them go. They have made an impact in more ways than one. I hope they have enjoyed your company as much as you have theirs.
