La Chatte Gitane (or The Gypsy Cat) was the name we chose for our cottage in France at the time. We chose it while on the road, moving house the first time round, from Ireland to France with 2 dogs and 7 cats in the car.
This blog began its insignificant life as a recipe book for friends and family who would ask me repeatedly for a recipe of this, that and the other.
Since then it has taken many different directions, like we did and like gypsies tend to do. Sometimes making a U-turn and revisiting familiar roads and taking a break when necessary.
You'll find recipes here, but also musings about the places we've called home, the gardens that we've established, not always successfully, the homes we've improved and the environments we've lived in. Currently, after yet another stint in Ireland, we're back in France @ Le Mas d'Ayen

Tiny Piglets

Tiny little munchkins have arrived today.

Four of them at only 7 weeks old. The previous lots were always around  twelve weeks and considerably bigger.

Asking the farmer what breed they are doesn't give you any idea of what stock they really are. Most of the time they say duroc. But a duroc is ginger, a light, medium or dark shade of ginger. These ones have been crossed many times over, if you ask me, but in the end it doesn't really matter. They seem healthy and inquisitive.

But at the moment, they are tired and sleepy.

Today they have to stay inside and if all goes well they can roam a little tomorrow. First all the fences need to be checked. Which we would have done before the sausages arrived, only they weren't expected for another couple of days.

Never fear. They will have a lovely existence with us until the time comes.

  1. Your volunteers will have hours of fun rounding them up when they escape!

    1. Haha, yes ! But when the volunteers have gone off into the sunset it'll be us doing the run around.
Hopefully the piggies won't go near the electric fence, but you never know, there is always the one. :)

  3. It only took us ONE time of standing on the wrong side of the electric fence while the pigs ran straight through it to learn how it should be done .... ours all ran off heading for the M40, we got them back after a lot of running.

    Piglets help keep you fit!!

    1. Ouch ! Luckily we don't live near any motorway or even a decent road. ;)
When one or all escape they can't get too far. The furthest the previous ones went was our neighbour's land just up the track. We met them when we came home from somewhere. :)
