La Chatte Gitane (or The Gypsy Cat) was the name we chose for our cottage in France at the time. We chose it while on the road, moving house the first time round, from Ireland to France with 2 dogs and 7 cats in the car.
This blog began its insignificant life as a recipe book for friends and family who would ask me repeatedly for a recipe of this, that and the other.
Since then it has taken many different directions, like we did and like gypsies tend to do. Sometimes making a U-turn and revisiting familiar roads and taking a break when necessary.
You'll find recipes here, but also musings about the places we've called home, the gardens that we've established, not always successfully, the homes we've improved and the environments we've lived in. Currently, after yet another stint in Ireland, we're back in France @ Le Mas d'Ayen

Pelting Down with Ice Cold Rain. All Day.

That was yesterday. You would be forgiven for thinking that there would never be a summery day again. Ever !

The water in the estuary was rather choppy.

And full. But that is because of high tide. Look at the difference with the picture below. Taken when the tide is lower (but not at its lowest). Sigh..we lose a lot of land when it's high tide.

What can you do on a day like this but drink copious amounts of coffee ?

A heaped mug of coffee. It's an art form. Or a serious lack of depth perception, as is the running joke here in the house. I seem to be doing this quite a lot.

Enjoy the week !

  1. It truly looked like a rotten day. I agree that all you can do is drink coffee. We were blessed with beautiful weather for once, as it is often pouring with rain here while all around the sun is shining x

    1. We're now having a few days of sunny weather, so all is good. The glory of living where we do, the weather can change at the drop of a hat. x

  2. Yes, Patricia it has been terribly wet and cold up here too and this last night it absolutely lashed down and interrupted my sleep on several occasions.
April is a miserable month when temperatures can be colder than in January! Roll on May is what I say :)

  6. Rain, pants. We have had showers, really, really heavy ones that are sudden and don't give you time to get that washing in.........

Hope this week is a little better?
